EMPLOYEE FINANCIAL STRESS
Human resources directors estimate that employee financial stress is costing in excess of $7,000 per employee annually in lost productivity and stress-related illness are expected to increase health care costs. Tens of millions of employees report experiencing financial distress and 30-80% of them spend some time at their place of employment dealing with personal finance issues rather than working. Recent statistics from the Federal Reserve found employees spend 28 hours per month on the job thinking about their finances. Employer sponsored financial literacy classes or money coaching sessions alleviate these problems by providing safe exposure to relevant financial information for their entire staff.
Employers can schedule a two-hour financial workshop for their employees through the Money Awareness Program. The seminars are done at the employer’s venue (or one MAP arranges). The seminars can be also broken into two one-hour sessions. These could be “lunch and learn” sessions or offered at the end of the workday. The cost per financial seminar is $350 dollars with $10 material fee covering the MAP workbook that is given to all employee attendees.
There is a minimum of ten employees required per financial literacy class. An employee may bring a family member to share materials at no additional cost. This encourages family members to “get on the same page” financially. Financial stress is the quickest way to depression, so getting the whole family working together can restore hope.
Once an employee attends a MAP workplace seminar session, s/he is eligible to receive a free 15-minute coaching call. The purpose of the coaching call is to define the individual employee’s next steps to building financial confidence. Again, no financial products of any kind are sold or offered. MAP’s only product is information.
Money coaching sessions are another option for employers. While financial literacy classes deliver broad based financial information, money coaching sessions are more specific in financial focus. The coaching sessions are done on a scheduled day with 30-minute time frames. The employee will again receive MAP’s workbook to provide the employee a financial resource to draw upon after the personal focus. Each session of personal money coaching carries the cost of $40. This cost is usually shared by the employee to give them a vested interest in obtaining financial well-being.
The coaching sessions offer the employee relief from the stigma of personal disclosure in seminars with their workplace peers. They offer each attendee a personalized session based on factual unbiased information.
They offer the employer a quicker intervention helping them resolve lost productivity and raise job morale by developing solutions to their employees’ financial obstacles. With national saving rates at a record low and personal debt at a record high, financial literacy education is needed more than ever. Unbiased financial literacy education is a rare commodity in the financial industry. MAP is the only financial literacy company that is focused upon spreading financial literacy education among the work force to employees both when they are free to make financial choices or when they being forced into financial crisis management. MAP does this with honest information.
